What are TAPS Clubs?
TAPS Clubs are a condensed version of TAPS Academy and are conducted and implemented in specialized high school curriculum. Poised to reduce social distance between police and teens while creating an understanding of each other in order to engage, de-escalate and improve communities, TAPS Clubs are rooted in sociological literature. The goal of TAPS Clubs in at-risk high schools is to establish a continuous, positive, and cohesive relationship between local police and at-risk teens in which both gain a better understanding of the other and work together to improve their community.
A network of police and community partners fostering one-on-one mentoring relationships with the teens strengthens this relationship. Topics will be covered monthly to manage interactions, conflict, drugs, bullying, gangs, violence, and other pertinent issues.
